Connacht Rugby kept their playoff and European dreams alive yesterday with a clinical 26-5 bonus-point victory over Edinburgh Rugby at Hive Stadium. This dominant away performance is exactly what we needed to secure a top-eight finish in the United Rugby Championship. Breaking into the playoff spots guarantees a quarter-final berth and puts us in prime position for Investec Champions Cup rugby next season, provided other results fall our way.
The Try Breakdown
Despite absorption of intense early pressure on our own line, our defence held strong before we struck with absolute precision.
Josh Ioane (24′): Opened the scoring by flying over in the corner following a blistering breakaway from a defensive scrum.
Shamus Hurley-Langton (36′): Crashed over from close range under the posts after the forward pack built relentless phases.

Shamus Hurley-Langton (43′): Struck again just around the interval, capitalizing on a powerful driving surge to bag his brace.
Matthew Devine (61′): Secured the crucial four-try bonus point by reacting fastest to a loose ball, chipping ahead, and winning the race to the line.
Edinburgh’s Ewan Ashman scored a late consolation try in the 72nd minute, but it did nothing to spoil our celebrations.
Bitter-Sweet Build Up
In the thrilling, coast-to-coast build-up to Josh Ioane’s try, center Harry West suffered a significant hamstring injury. After doing brilliantly to keep the ball moving and unleash Josh down the wing, West immediately clutched his leg and was forced off the field early.
All Eyes On Thomond Park
With our job in Scotland completely finished, the attention of every Connacht fan now shifts closer to home. All eyes will be on Thomond Park at 19:45 tonight, where the remaining URC final-round fixtures will dictate our exact seeding and confirm our Champions Cup destiny.
