In a result that defied almost every pre-match prediction, Connacht pulled off a stunning upset by defeating the DHL Stormers on their own turf. Heading into the clash, the Stormers were the overwhelming favorites, with most pundits and fans giving our boys little to no chance of surviving the South African heat and the home side’s physical intensity. However, Connacht’s resilience turned the narrative on its head, silencing the home crowd and proving that being the underdog suited us . The match was defined by clinical finishing and moments of pure unpredictability.

Connacht’s scoreboard was kept ticking by crucial tries from key players, but the standout moment of the first half was Billy Bolton’s unconventional chip and chase. Initially, the kick looked awkward and seemed to offer no real promise as it hung in the air, but a freakish, beautiful bounce of the ball deceived the Stormers’ cover defense, allowing Bolton to re-gather the ball and off load to Devine who ran in under the sticks . This slice of luck was well-earned, as the scrum-half’s relentless support lines ensured that Connacht always had an outlet to keep the momentum shifting.

The defining performance of the evening belonged to Sean Naughton, whose composure throughout the game belied his experience. Naughton was the architect of much of Connacht’s success, but his crowning achievement came in the closing stages. With the Stormers pushing hard to reclaim the lead, Naughton read the play perfectly, snatching a brilliant intercept to sprint clear and secure the victory. It was a masterclass in opportunistic rugby that capped off one of Connacht’s most famous away wins in recent memory. This leaves us 7th after the weekend action.
